ANASTACIA, “THE BLACK BLONDE
Anastacia Lyn Newkirk was born in Chicago in September 1968 and moved to New York when she was a teenager with her mother, sister and brother because her parents separated. Most of them are artists: her mother was an actress in Broadway and her sister is a dancer.
Her short-sightedness made her wear glasses. This fact is a distinctive sign in her career together with some tattoos.
In spite of the fact that she was interested in Archaeology, she had to work as a hairdresser, dancer, etc. But her days as an artist began by turning up in music videos and shows. One of them, called The Cut in 1999, was a springboard to a place in the music business .Despite not winning the contest, Michael Jackson telephoned to congratulate and encourage her to carve out a future as a singer.
Her first single in 2000 “I´m Outta Love“ from the album “Not That Kind” established her as an international singer across Europe, Asia and Australia (it became gold record in Spain). But by then Anastacia was a stranger in her country and had to promote herself by singing with Elton John, Michael Jackson, etc.
2003 was a turning point in Anastacia´s life. She suffered from Breast Cancer and overcame it through surgery and radiotherapy. Anastacia turned into a public example of early detection. Currently, she is the founder of Anastacia Fund, which collects money for Cancer research.
In 2007 Anastacia married her bodyguard in Mexico and in 2008 released her last album Heavy Rotation, which was a disappointment.
Her voice is very special and is compared with Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer and Tina Turner, whose soul is a mixture of funk, blues and rock. In general, they are called Black Voices so Anastasia is known as The Black Blonde. This can be checked in her discography:
2000: Not that kind
2001: Freak Of Nature
2003: Anastacia
2005: Pieces Of A Dream
2008: Heavy Rotation
